Interview with our researcher in the journal “Ir”

Recently an interview with one of the researchers from the Institute of Numerical modelling – Ģirts Zāģeris, was published in the journal Ir. Ģirts does not only work as a researcher and continues his doctoral studies, he is also a physics’ teacher in the Riga State Gymnasium No. 1.

Ģirts Zāģeris started giving physics’ lectures to high school students already in his first year of university studies. As a bachelor student in physics, he was an active member of the School for Young Physicists where students teach high-schoolers about topics of physics that are outside the typical school curriculum. When Ģirts was a high-school student himself, he actively participated in these lectures. The experience gained in the School for Young Physicists as well as the research experience comes in handy when teaching students in the Riga State Gymnasium No. 1. In the interview Ģirts tells what skills are necessary to be taught in school physics’ classes nowadays and that despite the students’ diverse future plans, it is possible for every student to gain some valuable skills or knowledge.
