Invitation to the Seminar and Alumni Meeting

The Institute of Numerical Modeling has its origins in the Department of Electrodynamics and Continuum Mechanics, established in 1970 at the University of Latvia. More than 250 professionals that have received specialized training at the department since its inception are working in many countries around the world, including USA, Germany, Sweden, Israel, Canada, etc. Most of the Institute’s researchers are also graduates of this department.

On April 24, the University of Latvia will host an international scientific colloquium and an alumni meeting to mark its 50th anniversary. The participants of the event will be addressed by the founder of the department Prof. Juris Mikelsons, as well as department graduates who currently represent different fields of scientific research and their industrial applications, have taken on leadership roles in research institutions and are successful in various fields of business.

There will also be a panel session on the role of mathematical modeling in the development of modern technology. The remainder of the day will be spent in an informal setting.
